The Big Night - During and After Your Song
You hear your name called and your heart skips a beat. As you stand
you feel like you have forgotten all of the karaoke tips that you read about this morning. However, you put a smile
on your face while your legs, which feel a bit like jello, carry you somehow to the microphone.
Now what was it that the karaoke tips had to say about microphones ? oh yes...A lot of karaoke clubs
now use wireless microphones but a lot do not. Of course if they do you have no choice but to hold the microphone, however,
if they are not wireless you need to decide whether to hold it or not. Some people do not like to hold the microphone
when they first start and would rather hold the stand or place two hands at the base of the microphone while it sits in the
stand. Some people like to hold it. (karaoke tip #6) Do what feels
comfortable to you as far as holding or not holding the microphone. As you become more comfortable using one you will develop
your own 'style'.
You take the microphone from the stand.
(karaoke tip #7) You decide
to have your back to the audience as you are nervous and you figure that you can face them when you become more confident.
After all you even see some of the confident singers with their backs to the audience. (My personal karaoke tip on this
one is that it is always best to face the audience but if you are nervous watch the screen the whole time and not their faces.
As you gain your confidence you will begin to look at the audience more often. Another personal karaoke tip...Don't
forget to smile while you are singing, before, during and after.
After all, you are having fun.)
You make your way through the song, nervous excitement but no problem...as a matter of fact you
sounded great! You smile on the way back to your seat amid the applause and encouragement from the audience. Wow,
you think to yourself... wonder how long before my next song is up?
That song went so well that you want
to make sure you remember that you sang it down 1 key. (karaoke tip #8) Back at the table you take your list out and place a tick mark beside the name of the song you sang and
mark it as down 1 (-1) (Another personal karaoke tip is that I carry a small address book in my purse which I mark down the
name, artist and key change of any song that I sing or make note of ones I want to learn. If a song is not available
at one of my regular karaoke clubs I also note that.)
As the end of the evening draws to a close you realize
that the karaoke tips that you read and implemented proved to be very useful and gave you some comfort in their knowledge
on your debut karaoke night.
