Most kids love to have a microphone in their hands and mimic their favorite stars. They first 'play' at performing as a toddler using a microphone and dancing and making sounds or singing nursery rhymes into the fake or echo microphone. As cute as this is it is also beneficial in the development of the child's development. Below I have listed the names of kid's karaoke products with a picture. A brief description is given but in order to get a full understanding of the product you can read the details in any of the ad's product descriptions. Retail prices have been given as near as possible (so you will know what NOT to pay) but you can often find significantly cheaper prices in other sites such as the ones above. Two microphone jacks are available and it comes with one microphone. This product was rated low by some because of skipping and jumbled words after a bit but was rated a 5 by others. Idol Talent Challenge by Tech 2 Go Family fun is the name of the game with this one. Put in the disk, plug it in and be the star of the show as the DVD lets you chose to sing either with or without the words on screen and with or without the Idol star help. You choose your song and stage background. Echo features and sound effects are also available. When you are done your audience votes and you will hear the real Idol judges give you comments on how you did based on the votes. There are disks for the very young, singing songs such as 'Old MacDonald and Three Blind Mice', to the classic Disney shows. Individual artists such as the popular Hanna Montanna for the preteens and teens, Christian tunes, country songs and of course even the modern pop rock that is on the radio. Check them out. words about disks to watch for: - CDG will play graphics and words onto your screen (CDs will not) - Some disks half of the songs with no vocals and then play the same songs with the vocals (great for learning the songs) while other disks have all songs without vocals (more songs but you better know the songs  )- Some brands are more reliable than others (correct words and backup) Tip...check where they are produced. Foreign country disks tend to have more mistakes because of the language differences. - Check out some of the sites such as Ebay.com or Ebay.ca they have some incredible deals. (I just purchased over 2000 songs-104 disks for $100 . This was a buy not a bid) |
This is not nearly as comprehensive a list of karaoke products past and present that are available but it gives you a rough idea of what is out there. I have left out far more than I have included. Many of the older children's karaoke products can also be found on the next pages under 'Karaoke products for Game Systems and Ipods' and 'Karaoke Products for the More Serious Singer'. There are hundreds of different players that now will play karaoke material but beware...cassettes will not give you words on a screen and neither will CDs...the most common karaoke disks are CDGs, and they will. So check to see if your player plays CDGs if you wish to sing karaoke from the screen. Even though you may get a machine that plays cassettes, also be aware that karaoke cassettes are not very popular and the karaoke cassettes are not all that easy to come by, so whatever the karaoke product comes with will be pretty much what you will have. Sometimes that works, sometimes not.
Karaoke has made using a microphone very popular and most of the products that are out there come with some sort of microphone. Many are of poor quality (compared to what a serious singer would use) but if they are being used by young children this is not really a problem as they will have a ton of fun with them and they will possibly be tossed around anyways. If you see that they handle the microphones with care, you can always upgrade inexpensively.
Like any other electronic equipment, karaoke products will have wires and disks and places to put those disks. Even though these products are being used by children it is important to either teach them to care for the equipment or be vigilant as to how they are being used if you wish it the product to last. Many parents complain that disks skip and words are jumbled on the screen. This is a classic symptom of a scratched or dirty disk or player. So remember to keep your products clean and you will continue to enjoy your karaoke product for a long time.
